Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

This is perhaps one of the most recognisable melodies of all nursery rhymes. (It is often used to learn the alphabet.) The words are taken from a poem called The Star, written by Jane Taylor in the mid 19th century. The poem has five verses – all of which I have included in this rendition – though only the first verse is known to most people.

Those who are familiar with the story of Alice in Wonderland, will recognise the Mad Hatter's parody of this verse at the tea party: “Twinkle, twinkle little bat, how I wonder where you're at. Up above the world you fly, like a tea tray in the sky.”
